Artist's Description

This is the old abandoned house at Gilbert's Corner's Virginia. I have been intrigued with it for several years now....wish I knew the complete history of this home. I have discovered a few things from the owner. It has been abandoned since long before 1948, The floors were removed 35 years ago for safety. It seems that the original paperwork has disappeared over time, and I also learned that for many years, it was referred to locally as "the haunted house" although no one has ever seen evidence of any ghosts in the place ..in recent years, anyway. It may have been a toll house for old US 50, but no one knows for sure, as it sits on the wrong side of the road for something like that. The house sits on the James Monroe Plantation called Oak Grove, and was originally owned by the Skinner family.
